The SLG-20-AX Retractable Landing Gear is a proven, production-ready upgrade for the Freefly Alta X, designed to improve clearance, reduce rigging time, and enable clean camera movement for high-end film, television, and industrial drone operations.
Developed, tested, and refined by XM2 Labs, the SLG-20-AX has been deployed globally by licensed UAV pilots on demanding shoots with heavy payloads - right up to the Alta X’s maximum lift capacity.
This is a turn-key, bolt-on system engineered for reliability, repeatability, and professional use in real-world conditions.

The XM2 retractable landing gear system requires a PWM control signal to operate the retracts.
When using the Alta X with the Pilot Pro controller, there is no native PWM output available. This is why some users encounter difficulty identifying where to connect the signal Y cable.
This is a platform limitation, not a fault with the landing gear system.
You have two supported options:
Use a radio controller and receiver that provides PWM outputs, which can be mapped directly to the retracts.
This approach requires changing or supplementing your controller setup.
The XM2 HD FPV System for Alta X includes three user-configurable PWM outputs integrated into the Brain Bay.
These outputs are ideal for:
This solution allows the Brain Bay to intelligently manage landing gear behaviour, including:
Driven by powerful servo motors, the hard black-anodised SLG-20 modules attach quad struts and carbon fibre tubing to custom adapter plates designed specifically for the Alta X frame.
Each unit is assembled, calibrated, and tested in-house to ensure synchronized operation and long-term reliability.
The SLG-20-AX has been successfully tested and operated worldwide by professional UAV pilots across film, television, and industrial applications - in demanding environments and under real production pressures.
This is not a prototype or concept product.
It is a battle-tested upgrade trusted on real jobs.
We incorporated high torque, titanium gear Hitec servos for optimal take-off and landing. The XM2 Labs engineers fully calibrate and pre-program the servos in-house. When the legs are up or down in-flight, the servos are turned off and locked out by the springs for minimal power draw.
Rubber springs and conformal coated electronics were installed to help resist corrosion.
SLG-20 modules are made and calibrated for synchronized quad motor operation (two motors driving each leg) and specifically to be used in tandem Freefly’s Alta X and custom heavy lift drones.
XM2 Labs developed the SLG-20 modules over a two years period, and specifically for robust, heavy-lift operation.
Although this is the final production run, ongoing support and spare parts availability will continue.
XM2 Labs products are designed to be serviceable, supported, and usable long after purchase - because downtime on professional sets is not an option.
